Entryway Landscaping

Since first impressions last forever, we should take care in landscaping the entry way to your home to be welcoming and impressive.

Draw a design of the current layout including the path from the driveway, steps and surrounding plants. Photos will help. You want to end up with a clear, simple route to the front door, and a simple, uncluttered area where visitors will be introduced to your home with class and style.

Now you must choose plants to line the walkway to your home. It's best to try and coordinate colors of your house and garden. Also try small trees and shrubs to create mini-focal points near the door (plant these first so the small plants can accent them). Evergreens are fantastic anchor plants and keep their color all year round. Pick plants that will not grow so tall as to block windows. Try ground covers or perennials to give further color. Annuals can be added for bursts of color in spring and summer.
